Mortification

Break the Curse demo Mortification-Break the Curse (demo tape) 1989

1. "Journey of Reconciliation"
2. "Blood Sacrifice"
3. "Brutal Warfare"
4. "Illusion of Life"
5. "Break the Curse"
6. "Impulsation"

Mortification: (1990)
Steve Rowe-bass, vocals
Cameron Hall-guitars
Jayson Sherlock-drums

OK, I know it's not a CD but the Lightforce Break the Curse demo from 1990 is a rare collector's item. The sound is very thin, but still very listenable. The music is usually (mis)labeled as death metal, but rather what we have here is THRASH that is very influenced by the German thrash scene. All six of these songs appear on the Nuclear Blast re-release "Break The Curse 1990" but sound a bit better, probably due to mastering and the CD format. Black and white cover art with a cool black plastic cassette with gold print. Not something I ever listen to, but a nice Mortification collector's item.

Scrolls of the Megilloth promo Goreguts
Mortification-Scrolls of the Megilloth/Gorefest-False
(Nuclear Blast) 1993

1. "Nocturnal" (6:08)
2. "Terminate Damnation" (6:17)
3. "Eternal Lamentation" (6:27)
4. "Raise the Chalice" (4:17)
5. "Lymphosarcoma" (6:01)
6. "Scrolls of the Megilloth" (4:25)
7. "Death Requiem" (5:09)
8. "Necromanicide" (4:54)
9. "Inflamed" (3:25)
10 "Ancient Prophecy" (11:42)

This 2-CD promotional set is very rare, although it contains no new songs by either band. It's just one of those discs that collector's and CD freaks want to have so that they can boast that they have it. I got mine in a trade for almost nothing. I saw a copy at a show for $30. Click here for Gorefest songlist.

Australia 1992 Mortification - Australia 1992 (CDR bootleg)

1. "Satan's Doom" (6:13)
2. "Until the End" (3:39)
3. "The Destroyer Beholds" (3:25)
4. "Terminated Damnation" (6:25)
5. "Lymphosarcoma" (6:22)
6. "Eternal Lamentation" (6:47)
7. "Journey of Reconciliation" (4:39)
8. "Death Requiem" (6:28)
9. "Raise the Chalice" (5:16)
10. "Necromanicide" (4:46)
11. "Brutal Warfare" (3:56)

Vintage year for 'ol Morty. The sound quality of this bootleg is certainly not album quality but it's not unlistenable either. It's just a little muddy. However, it is very cool to hear some of these songs live. The speed and pure aggression that Morty possessed in the early 90's was astounding. The cover art is a bit off as it pictures the "EnVision EvAngeline" line-up, however this show consisted of Steve Rowe (bass), Michael Carlisle (guitars) and Jayson Sherlock (drums). Unfortunately this CDR bootleg was not recorded 'disc-at-once' so there are gaps between the songs. Anyone know how to fix this? If so I'll send you a copy.

13. "Vital Fluids" (6:21)
14. "The Sea of Forgetfulness" (:29)

15. "Butchered Mutilation" (4:47)
This is a very cool collector's disc. It is a 2 cd set, with bonus tracks, wrapped in a digi-pack with tons of photos. It was only released in Germany through Nuclear Blast and is now pretty rare. Wish they would have included the studio version of "Time Crusaders" instead of the live version from "Live Planetarium." Regardless, this is an excellent collection.

Mortificiation/Tourniquet split promo Mortification/Tourniquet-Collector's Edition CD Single (Intense) 1994

TOURNIQUET
1. "Bearing Gruesome Cargo" (4:35)
2. "Acid Head" (4:23)
3. "K517" (2:09)
4-8. Ted Kirkpatrick talks"

3. "Love Song" (4:03)
12. "Steve Rowe talks" (1:59)

Mortification: (1994)
Steve Rowe-bass, vocals
Michael Carlisle-guitars
Phil Gibson-drums

A cool little collector's split disc. Tourniquet being another of my favorite bands. However, the Mortification songs are all from "Blood World" and the Tourniquet songs all from "Vanishing Lessons." The Steve Rowe interview is taken from the "Live Planetarium" video. Ted Kirkpatrick's short interview being the only thing on here that is new. Probably not a disc for the casual fan of metal, but a true jem for the Mortification or Tourniquet collector, of which I am both.

Distarnished Priest Mortification - Distarnished Priest (bootleg)

1. "Live Planetarium" (4:58)
2. "Impulsation" (4:19)

5. "Gutwrench" (3:29)
6. "43:31" (3:55)
7. "Monks of the High Lord" (5:43)
8. "Northern Storm/Primitive Rhythm Machine" -in part (1:41)

Mortification: (1995)
Steve Rowe-bass, grind baritone vocals
Bill Rice-drums
Jason Campbell-rhythm guitars

As bootlegs go, this is slightly about average (B+). An audience recording that somehow became a cd. Mortification bootlegs are hard to find. I've been to dozens of CD shows and have only ever seen this one. A friend hooked me up with this one. Recorded live in Denver, CO 1995.

Soon after posting this site, I got a call from Steve Rowe who informed me that this show was recorded direct to dat tape, so I was wrong about the audience recording.

Conquer the Stump Mortification - Conquer the Stump (Ace) 2003

1. "God Shaped Void" (5:30)
2. "Web of Fire" (5:21)
3. "Brutal Warfare" (4:47)
4. "Grind Planetarium" (5:34)
5. "Steve Speaks" (2:19)

...."Love Song"
9. "Priests of the Underground" (5:49)
10. "I Am Not Your Commodity" (4:07)
11. "Hammer of God" (4:31)

Excellent show with Steve Rowe showing off his new band for the first time. This show features Mike Jelinic on guitars and Mike Forsberg on drums. The cover art features photos from the Blackstump show, which is kind of cool. Unfortunately my original copy was rather poor. Thanks to another Morty fan I have a better audience recording. The sound quality here isn't great (B+), but it isn't completely unlistenable either.

Total Thrashing Death Mortification - Total Thrashing Death (CDR bootleg)
Recorded live Easter Friday at the AGMF, 2004

1. "Boaconstrictor" (5:01)
2. "Purest Intent" (3:51)
3. "Grind Planetarium" (5:34)
4. "Medley" (7:00)
...."Lymphosarcoma"
...."The Destroyer Beholds
...."Distarnished Priest"
...."Love Song"

5. "Hammer of God" (5:03)
6. "Chapel of Hope" (4:08)
7. "Steve speaks" (4:48)
8. "To Much Pain" (3:47)
9. "Standing At the Door of Death" (4:00)
10. "Steve speaks again" (2:05)
11. "I Am Not Your Commodity/E.D." (4:55)

"Total Thrashing Death" was recorded on April 2004 and is a typical, average audience recording. In other words, it's listenable but not album or soundboard quality either. Most of the material on this one is from "Brain Cleaner". Steve Rowe amusingly starts off the set by saying, "We are Mortification, we're gonna clean your brains." LOL!

For His Kindgom Mortification - For His Kingdom (CDR bootleg)

3. "Steve Speaks Pt. 1" (1:31)
4. "Grind Planetarium" (5:12)
5. "Medley" (7:03)
...."Lymphosarcoma"
...."The Destroyer Beholds
...."Distarnished Priest"
...."Love Song"

6. "Hammer of God" (4:37)
7. "Chapel of Hope" (4:16)
8. "To Much Pain" (3:53)
9. "Standing At the Door of Death" (5:40)
11. "E.D." (:30)
12. "12 Men" (4:37)
13. "Lightforce Jam" (:57)
14. "Steve Speaks Pt. 2" (8:47)
15. "Priest of the Underground" (4:22)
16. "Free As A Bird" (2:59)
17. "Brain Cleaner" (3:55)

Mortification's "Brain Cleaner" album launch show in Australia. For the most part the set list is pretty similar to the Blackstump show listed above from the same year. Sound quality isn't bad, being an audience recording. The band sounds tight, except for the funny, little, imprompto Lightforce jam. Actually I think it would be cool to hear Steve break out with some of those old Lightforce numbers. "Become a metal missionary, looking like Jesus did..." To much fun!
