SLIK TOXIK

Guilty of Innocence Slik Toxik - Smooth And Deadly (Capitol Records) 1991

1.  Big Fuckin' Deal (2:50)
2.  Riff Raff (3:49)
3.  Mass Confusion [instrumental] (3:01)
4.  Rachel's Breathing (5:22)

Well butter my butt and call me a biscuit, how did I manage to miss these Canadian rockers? Slik Toxik are Canada's answer to Skid Row, with the grit and grind of a sleazier ilk of bands, such as Dangerous Toys and Faster Pussycat. I believe this four song EP was the band's introduction to the world. It features three grinding rockers in "Big Fuckin' Deal", "Riff Raff" and "Rachel's Breathing". All three are built around a heavy rhythm section, gritty guitar riffs and nasty licks. It's also important to note that Nicholas S. Walsh has some killer vox, with just enough teeth to leave a nasty bite mark. The remaining track "Mass Confusion" is an instrumental that would have fit nicely onto one of the early Joe Satriani albums. The song has a bit of a swing and features some fiery fret work. It's a shame this band was a little late on the scene and would be forgotten in a depressing world of flannel shirts and crappy music.
