Starwood - If It's Ain't Broke, Break It! (Metal Blade) 2004 1. "Subculture"
(3:39) Lizzy Borden returns with a new band and a new attitude. Whereas Lizzy was the very definition of heavy metal in the past, Starwood is more along the lines of 1970's glam rock meets a punk rock delivery. Lizzy's signature wail is still front and center. However this CD leans heavily towards the hard rocking, glammy stylings of bands like the New York Dolls, Iggy & the Stooges, T. Rex and even Kiss. Several bands have been attempting this style to varying degress of success. Brides of Destruction, The Darkness, and Velvet Revolver all have similar sounds, however Lizzy does it better than them all. It's unfortunate that Starwood will never be given the media buzz or marketing that Brides and Velvet Revolver received. Had this disc autographed by Lizzy, drummer Joey Scott and bassist Marten Anderson when they came through town with Lizzy Borden. |
